‘Happy Face' Canceled at Paramount+ After One Season

Robert and Michelle King's crime thriller 'Happy Face' has been canceled at Paramount+ after just one season, Variety has confirmed. The news comes roughly two months after 'Happy Face' wrapped Season 1 on May 1. The show tells the real story of Melissa Moore, who in 1995, learned that her father, Keith Hunter Jesperson, was the then-infamous Happy Face Killer. The series is based on the 'Happy Face' podcast from iHeartPodcasts as well as Moore's autobiography 'Shattered Silence,' which was co-written by M. Bridget Cook. Other cast members include James Wolk, Tamera Tomakili, Khiyla Aynne, Benjamin Mackey, Connor Paton and David Harewood. The real Jesperson is currently serving life in prison in Oregon penitentiary. He murdered at least eight women, and earned his nickname from drawing smiley faces on his letters to the authorities and media. Jennifer Cacicio served as showrunner and executive producer with Robert and Michelle King, Michael Showalter, Conal Byre, Melissa G. Moore, Will Pearson and Liz Glotzer. Netflix's new crime thriller just became one of my most anticipated movies of the summer — and you need to watch the gripping trailer now

When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. This summer is set to be a big one for Vanessa Kirby. She's due on the big screen next week as part of Marvel's new 'Fantastic Four' reboot, and then just a few weeks later, she's headlining a buzzy new crime thriller movie on Netflix. Premiering on the world's most popular streaming service on August 15, the film in question is called 'Night Always Comes.' The movie is described as 'a propulsive odyssey of survival' by Netflix, and now that we have a trailer, it's very quickly become one of my most anticipated new releases of the summer. The trailer is a mere two minutes long, but it gives us a pretty detailed look at the movie, and let's just say it's got me adding the movie to my watchlist almost a month ahead of time. That's the hallmark of a very good trailer. We see Kirby playing Lynette, a desperate but resourceful woman given a single night to scrounge up $25,000 to keep her family from being evicted, and her entire world falling apart. With the clock ticking, Lynette is forced to go to extreme lengths to get the money needed to secure her future. Based on Willy Vlautin's 2021 novel of the same name, and directed by Benjamin Caron, 'Night Always Comes' also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Zack Gottsagen, Stephan James, Julia Fox, Eli Roth, Randall Park and Michael Kelly. I'm especially excited to see Gottsagen appear in the cast list after his excellent performance in 2019's 'The Peanut Butter Falcon.' 'Night Always Comes' on Netflix — here's everything you need to know Alongside this intense first trailer, Netflix has also released a Tudum blog post giving us more details about the upcoming crime thriller movie. This includes an official logline: "'Night Always Comes' follows Lynette (Kirby), a woman who risks everything to secure the house that represents a future for her family. On a dangerous odyssey through a single night, Lynette is forced to confront her dark past in order to finally break free.' The Netflix original flick has been written by Sarah Conradt, who penned last year's underrated thriller 'Mothers' Instinct' starring Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain, and it represents a reunion for Kirby and Caron, who previously collaborated on the popular 'The Crown' series. 'What drew me to the film was its exploration of survival and sacrifice and the idea of quiet heroism,' said Caron. 'It asks the question, 'Who gets to feel safe, and at what cost?'' Filmed and set in Portland, Oregon, the movie takes place over a single night, which should give the thriller a real sense of momentum and add to the intensity as the clock is always ticking. Plus, Kirby received an Oscar nomination for her last Netflix project, 'Pieces of a Woman,' and is also producing in this one, so I'm pretty confident in the final result. On Kirby's performance, Caron said, 'Vanessa brings a beautifully wild energy to Lynette, making the character unpredictable and deeply, deeply human. Together, we worked on creating a character who is simply not just reacting to the world, but desperately trying to wrest control of her future, even as she teeters on the edge of self-destruction.' Between its hooky premise, best-selling source material, and strong cast list, it definitely seems like 'Night Always Comes' has all the ingredients to be a Netflix hit next month, and it could be the streaming service's best shot this year of picking up some major award nominations. As noted, 'Night Always Comes' arrives on Netflix on August 15, and I'm ready to add it to my watchlist right now. If the basic setup doesn't sell you on this movie, then the gripping new trailer is sure to tip you over the edge. I've got a feeling this one could be among Netflix's best originals of the year. Critically acclaimed crime thriller 'you need to watch immediately' finally hits Netflix - and is hailed as 'a masterpiece'

A critically acclaimed crime thriller 'you need to watch immediately' finally hits Netflix - and is hailed as 'a masterpiece'. The TV show, Sneaky Pete, hit our screens on the streaming service Amazon Prime Video back in 2015. The streaming service's synopsis reads: 'A con man (Giovanni Ribisi) on the run from a vicious gangster (Bryan Cranston) takes cover from his past by assuming the identity of his prison cellmate, Pete, "reuniting" with Pete's estranged family, a colorful, dysfunctional group that threatens to drag him into a world just as dangerous as the one he's trying to escape - and, just maybe, give him a taste of the loving family he's never had.' The series aired 30 episodes over three successful series until 2019. It stars Giovnni Ribisi as Marius Josipović / Pete Murphy, Marin Ireland as Julia Bowman, Shane McRae as Taylor Bowman, Libe Barer as Carly Bowman and Michael Drayer as Eddie Josipović. Although the show wrapped up six years ago, fans will be happy to know that they can watch the full series on Netflix. And it's no surprise considering how many positive reviews the show has got. Sneaky Pete has received a whopping 96% on critic site Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile others have rushed over to IMDB to share their positive views. 'A masterpiece.' 'Will keep you hooked!' 'Sneaky Pete is such an excellent and entertaining series! It's a show about cons, lies, deception, family, relationships, etc., etc. 'And tells it in such an amazing way that you can't wait to see the next episode! It was one of the best Amazon originals and got cancelled after 3 seasons for god knows why? Even though it ended it on a cliffhanger it's still definitely worth watching, it's not the kind of cliffhanger that will ruin the show for you. 'Once you start this amazing series you won't be able to stop watching it until you've binged the entire series so make sure you give yourself enough time to watch it. 'I promise you that it's worth every second!' 'Instantly Sucks YOU IN! Great Acting, Great Story, GREAT SHOW!' 'Excellent cast and script. Doesn't disappoint. 'Great choice for your next binge.' 'This is an excellent mystery, crime drama, con game series.' 'I'm really, really hoping for a 4th season. 'Loved every second of this and it left me wanting for more. 10 episodes was not enough.' 'A con artist hides from his past mistakes by posing as his former cellmate, deceiving a family that has no idea he's not the man they lost years ago,' Netflix's official synopsis reads. Sneaky Pete isn't the only show on Netflix that has got people talking recently. Earlier this week Stranger Things fans were left 'crying' as Netflix dropped a first trailer for the final series. The popular sci-fi show debuted in 2016 and follows a group of friends who tackle supernatural forces in Indiana. Now, a teaser for season five has been released by the streaming platform and it sent fans into a frenzy.

‘This is really the untold true story': A behind the scenes look on the set of November 1963

Cast and crew prepare to film another take in front of their Texas School Book Depository set for production of November 1963 on Friday July 11, 2025. (Joseph Bernacki/CTV News Winnipeg) On the set of November 1963, screenwriter and producer Nicholas Celozzi watches another film take unfold. 'What we're doing here today is this is right after the assassination of John F. Kennedy,' Celozzi said. '(Lee Harvey) Oswald, I don't want to give too much away, but I think he knows at this point he's being set up.' It's all business on the set of a crime thriller that has chosen Winnipeg as its primary filming location. Behind the scenes shot of November 1963 A behind the scenes look before another take is recorded on the set of November 1963 on Friday July 11, 2025. (Joseph Bernacki/CTV News Winnipeg) Celozzi's production is a retelling of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy through the eyes of brothers Joseph 'Pepe' Giancana and his brother Sam Giancana. They ran the Chicago Outfit at the time, and Sam Giancana was a notorious mob boss. For Celozzi, it's as much a family story as a historical account. 'They were my uncles, and Pepe had given me this story,' he said. 'This was really the introspective point of view of what went on, the underbelly that pulled this off.' John Travolta November 1963 stars John Travolta and Mandy Patinkin among others. Celozzi said the film is inspired by conversations he had with his uncle 'Pepe' in the '90s. 'I just became very close to Pepe all my life. I guess I can say it as a young kid, you know, he was in control of doing all the bookmaking on the West Side of Chicago,' he said. 'He used to hang out at my dad's dealership and just think, that's all day long. As I got involved in the film business, he felt very comfortable. One day he actually said to me, he goes, 'Look, not right now, but later on I'm going to tell you what actually took place.'' (Joseph Bernacki/CTV News Winnipeg) Celozzi said one person was tasked with driving Sam Giancana while conducting business in Dallas. 'Sam asked Pepe, 'Would you do me a favour and drive me around for a couple of days?'' he said. 'Pepe actually is with Sam during those days. He was a fly on the wall. This basically is his perspective of what he saw and heard.' Initially Celozzi wanted to shoot the movie in the Chicago suburbs. A conversation with his producing partner Kevin DeWalt brought him to Winnipeg for the first time. He was soon convinced the city would be a great fit to film. 'He said to me, 'You have to come up here, there's a city here, Winnipeg,'' Celozzi said. 'It doubles for Chicago sometimes, and I think there's some wonderful locations that we can shoot (as) Dallas. The hospitality Winnipeg has shown us has been really second to none.' Monitors on set of November 1963 A behind the scenes look at the monitors used for the production of November 1963 on Friday July 11, 2025. (Joseph Bernacki/CTV News Winnipeg) Adam Smoluk, executive director of Film Training Manitoba, said it's wonderful to see film productions taking place all over the province this summer. 'We're very fortunate at Film Training Manitoba, because we provide training for a lot of the professionals that work within the film and television industry,' Smoluk said. 'When there are productions going on, that means there's that much more training that's needed. We see so much growth within our industry when these types of productions are happening.' Extras on set of November 1963 Dozens of people served as extras on the set wearing period attire from the 1960s on Friday July 11, 2025. (Joseph Bernacki/CTV News Winnipeg) Based on the time period it's set in, Celozzi said the film will have the tone and style of The Godfather and he has enjoyed working with the Academy Award-nominated director Roland Joffe as Joffe directs the production. Working with Travolta and the rest of the cast has also been a pleasure based on the cast's appreciation of the story at hand. 'What they've all said to me is they've really appreciated the time I've taken with the subtext of the characters,' Celozzi said. This Nov. 22, 1963 file photo shows President John F. He said the recently released CIA documents will spark interest in his film. 'People are still fascinated because they know something doesn't seem right,' Celozzi said. 'Right now it's very topical because the people that I wrote about are now appearing in all of it.' Celozzi said they are hopeful to have the film released in 2026.
